Scanning

Why is my scan taking time?

Every photo is analyzed on your device instead of on a server, so scan time depends on the size of your library and your device. A few things help:

  • The first scan is the slowest. Results are cached, so later scans skip photos that were already analyzed.
  • If you use iCloud Photos with “Optimize Storage”, some photos must be downloaded from iCloud before they can be analyzed. This only happens on a connection that isn't marked as expensive or in Low Data Mode, so connect to Wi-Fi for the fastest scan.
  • Keep Gyaanra Snap open while it scans.
What can I scan?

On iPhone and iPad: your Photos library. On Mac: your Photos library, any folders, and individual photos — on their own or together in one scan. You can drag folders and photos onto the window.

Choose a category for each scan: duplicates and similar photos, screenshots, blurry photos or bursts. Bursts come from the Photos library.

Can I change how strict the scan is?

Yes. Scan settings let you adjust how close in time and place photos must be, the minimum image quality, and the similarity threshold used for grouping.

Results

How are similar photos grouped?

Gyaanra Snap creates a compact visual fingerprint of each photo and compares photos taken around the same time and place. Photos whose fingerprints are close enough are grouped. A photo only joins a group if it looks like every photo already in it, which keeps unrelated pictures apart.

Grouping is automatic and not perfect, so always review a group before removing anything.

What do “Exact match” and “Similar match” mean?

Exact match groups are copies of the same photo. Similar match groups are photos that look alike — for example several shots of the same moment.

How are screenshots and blurry photos shown?

They aren't copies of each other, so they're grouped by month instead. Use Select All for a month, or pick photos one by one. Blurry photos are detected with an image-sharpness check, so some intentionally soft photos may appear — review before removing.

Smart Pick

How does Smart Pick choose photos?

In each group, Smart Pick chooses one photo to keep and selects the rest for cleanup. It compares signals such as resolution, file size, capture date, how complete the photo's details are, and — for bursts — the frame you marked as a favorite in Photos. On Mac, when the same photo exists in both your Photos library and a folder, it keeps the library copy.

Does Smart Pick delete anything?

No. Smart Pick only selects. You can change any selection, and nothing is removed until you confirm. At least one photo in every group is always kept.

Is Smart Pick free?

Smart Pick and Smart Pick All are part of Gyaanra Snap Pro. On the free plan you can select photos yourself. See plans.

Photos Library

How does Mac access my Photos Library?

Through Apple's Photos framework, the same way other Mac apps do. macOS asks for your permission the first time. You can change it any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos.

To scan your library, use Add Photos Library. Dropping the Photos library package itself onto the window isn't supported.

Can Gyaanra Snap see all my files on Mac?

No. It can only open the folders and photos you choose or drag in.

I gave limited Photos access on iPhone. What happens?

Gyaanra Snap can only scan the photos you've allowed. To scan your whole library, change the access for Gyaanra Snap in the Settings app under Privacy & Security › Photos.

Deletion

What happens when I remove photos?

Photos from your Photos library are moved to Recently Deleted in the Photos app after you confirm Apple's prompt. You can recover them there for a limited time. If you use iCloud Photos, the change syncs to your other devices.

On Mac, photos from folders are moved to the Trash, where you can put them back.

Can I undo a delete?

Yes, for a while: recover photos from Recently Deleted in the Photos app, or files from the Trash on your Mac. Once those are emptied, the photos can't be recovered by Gyaanra Snap.

How many photos can I remove for free?

Up to 10 photos in total. Scanning, viewing results and selecting are always free. Pro removes the limit.

Purchases

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

Open Gyaanra Snap, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases (also available on the Pro screen). Make sure you're signed in with the Apple ID you used to buy Pro.

Does Pro work on my iPhone, iPad and Mac?

Yes — one Pro purchase covers all your devices signed in with the same Apple ID.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple: open your Apple ID's Subscriptions settings to cancel. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Privacy

Are my photos uploaded?

No. All analysis happens on your device. Read the privacy policy.

How do I turn off usage statistics?

In Gyaanra Snap, open Settings and turn off Share Usage & Crash Reports.
